Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! Well, learned a lesson today. I should of known to ask Linda at the school how many students there were parading down Main Street today.  I almost had plenty of candy.  I hate that!  Then I went to HyVee to buy more for this evenings Beggars night and the candy isle was being transformed for Christmas! Ugh! Seriously, why so soon! The bright side is I got to hand out treats to the kiddos from school. They were so adorable as usual!

Good Morning!

There is so much that's going to be happening here in Slater within the next couple of weeks! Slater Fall Festival on October 27th, the elementary school parading through Main Street ( The Hammond House will have treats for the kiddos!) on October 31st along with Trick or Treat night that night! The Hammond House (Brent and I) are entering the chili cook off for the Fall Festival here in Slater! We are looking forward to this it should be fun!  We think it's important to get involved with things here in town! We promote the businesses here to our guests.  We suggest the Nite Hawk for dinner, Sheldahl Crossing for shopping, Casey's, Town and Country, Cole's and hopefully again soon the Take Down. Believe me some of our bicycle friends who have been on the trail before miss the Take Down! Supporting  our town businesses is so very important for all of us who live here.  What would we do without all of these? We have even sent one of our guests to Kevin Holmes (realtor) as she was looking for a home to buy. He sold her a house as her family was being relocated to this area from Northern Iowa.  I challenge the people of Slater to get involved in the community and make Slater an even better town then what it is!  We love living in Slater and hope that our partnerships continue for many, many years to come!

Well, I did not want to blog anything about colon cancer or my treatment over the past few months but I couldn't resist! Today was an epic day for my family and I. I went in for a cat scan and blood work today and then met with my oncologist. My cat scan was clear although I have a bit of fluid built up he said around where my colon was resected. He said there is nothing to worry about. My blood work was great!  Jordan and I had a bit of goofy fun while waiting. We always laugh so hard I end up crying.  Thank you to all my friends and family for everything! I couldn't have made it through all of it without the prayers, thoughts, cards and everything else!!

Fall cookies

My oldest daughter Maddie called me last night asking if I had fall or Halloween cookie cutters. I did of course! It brought back memories of cookie making for holidays. What happened to the day when you were given homemade treats tick or treating or in school at holiday parties? Coming from a small town we didn't worry about bad things happening. I miss the cookies and popcorn balls! I miss baking and taking them to my kids classrooms! I am looking forward to someday baking with my grandchildren! Someday I'll pass down my cookie cutters to the next generation.  Like my grandmother passed down hers to me.

Monday morning blues

Mondays are hard when you have a great weekend! We didn't do much. It was relaxing! Today brings back to the office for Brent, cleaning and laundry for me.  This week I'm going to make a cake for the guys to try. It's one I want to make for the ladies group coming in November. I did get oatmeal cookies made yesterday. They were yummy! Hopefully this cake will be too.  It's a good idea to try it out first.  I love my two guinea pigs! LOL  I'll post pictures of it when I'm done.

Fall

Rainy day at The Hammond House!  A nap, The Chiefs game (which they won!) now I'm thinking about making oatmeal cookies. It's been so quiet here this weekend without guests! Fall is definitely here with the rainy days, colder temps and of course football! We have our mums and pumpkins outside. A few decorations inside. I realized I didn't have many for the inside after living in an apartment for a couple of years. I just didn't have room for a lot. I'll have to add decorations but I am picky it won't be just anything! Lol
Have a great rest of your weekend!

Happy Saturday!

No guests at The Hammond House this weekend! We are not used to this but are ok with spending time just Brent and I! We are having a relaxing day watching the Iowa game and enjoying each other.  As he teases Porsha, I am blogging. They can't leave each other alone. They torment each other. As the sun finally comes out today I'm thinking a bicycle ride might be in order today! Enjoy your day friends!

Good Morning!

Rainy morning here at The Hammond House!  As I was making dinner last night my thoughts went to my mom Mary and my two grandmothers Pearl and Jean. Not only did they teach me how to cook but they taught me about being a lady. I am the woman I am today because of these amazing women! I will be sharing a few of my favorite recipes from them off and on over the weeks to come. I always cooked with my mom and my grandmothers when I visited them. Holidays were special times at their homes and I have many memories. I'm excited to create new memories this holiday season at The Hammond House! Baking and decorating will be fun! I will post pictures with each holiday.

Guests

After our guests this week signed our guest book I realized that we have had amazing guests this spring and summer! They have come from all over. Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Nebraska, Nevada, Alabama, Arizona, California and we can't forget our great state Iowa! Not all have come for the awesome bike trail we have in the High Trestle Trail but most have! What a great experience we have to offer here in central Iowa! We are so looking forward to the next few months of sharing our home with new friends! Photo courtesy of Deb Gilbert!

Breakfast at The Hammond House

I found this cute idea for cinnamon rolls and used it today. It was super simple! I just bought frozen cinnamon rolls at our local grocery store put the dough in the pots, let them rise then I baked them in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes. I garnished them with a sliced strawberry and mint sprig. My guests gobbled them up!

New blog

I've decided to create a blog for the B and B. Hope you enjoy!
